Give Me A Break…

I see that it has been a few weeks since I have posted a new blog…and this post is just to say I have taken a short break because of my recent vacation with El. As I usually do while we are on vacation, I kept a journal during our time away and now I am knee deep in editing. While we are away I write constantly without correcting spelling or moving things around- stream of consciousness journalling. It is only after I get home that I sit down and read what I have written and try to put it together. I hope to get it done soon and I will let everyone know when it is posted on our travel site.
A couple of things upcoming:
a)       I recently attended a program called “The Big Idea” with Lenara and I was really excited about the concept. I hope to write a post about it.
b)       At the end of June I will be giving up my post office box and have a new address. If you plan to mail something to me before I post the new address please let me know so I can give you a new address. Mail can take a month or more to reach me, so by the time it gets here I may have changed addresses. Speaking of mail, I was so excited to get a care package a couple weeks ago, and I hope to write a post about how a care package from home can shrink the miles between us.
c)       Another volunteer has posted a challenge of 6 integration exercises to be completed over the next month. They idea is to force us out of our comfort zones and force us to interact with people in our community that we wouldn’t ordinarily talk to. At first glance, some of the tasks look like they are geared more towards volunteers in bigger cities. But, if I can adapt them to my small town life, I think I shall accept the challenge. And of course write about it.
d)       Some people have been following El and my recent vacation on Facebook. Thanks for all the great words and comments. We had a wonderful time and hope to share that story soon, too.

That’s it for now.
Пока (bye)

  1. Although I am with Sim as he journals, continuously, while we are traveling, I always enjoy reading the travel log he posts. This vacation will be no exception. We had a great time togehter, visited so many interesting places and ate some great meals (Sim's growing familiariy with Russian easy to see throughout the whole trip). Something as simple as going to a museum or restaurant becomes an adventure, and I'm so glad that Sim captures that in his writing. I also try to keep a journal as we travel, but I usually get side tracked by something else...so I'll just stick with doing what I do best, making sure the technology works, and a few comments here and there...

Since I’ve come back from my vacation/visit with Sim everyone of course asks me…”Did you have a nice time?” That one is easy to answer - “YES!” Then they follow-up with: “It’s good to be home” – now this one is a little tougher for me to agree with. Of course I’m glad to be home, not living out of a suitcase, in my own bed, normal routine. I think one person got it right when they said “coming home must be bittersweet for you.” It’s nice to be home, but it’s hard to say good-bye, again, to Sim. We made it as quick and painless as possible; I think we’re getting pretty good at it, but it’s still not easy. Nor is it easy to be a working, physically active, busy woman on her own for a little while...so it's back to my normal routine, until the next vacation with Sim.
