Dear Eleonora,
Today, I am sad because one week from now we will be in Washington, DC saying our last goodbye's for the longest time that we have ever been apart. I keep reminding myself (and you) that I'm not dying, I am not going off to prison, nor am I leaving to fight in a war. So, there are those bright sides to consider. I have been going through every range of emotions in the past few weeks as I make my final preparations for my departure to Ukraine. Sometimes I am happy and excited. Sometimes nervous and scared. And sometimes, I am sad that the next two years will be spent, for the most part, apart. I am already counting down the days until I can have visitors to my site.
Over the past 12 years we have had some incredible experiences together. We have dined at Guy Savoy, driven on the autobahn, walked on the Great Wall, and swam in the Blue Lagoon. I look forward to the next 27 months as one of these life experiences that will prove, once again, why I know I have the best wife in the world! I love you with all of my heart and I will be back before we know it. Just think, we will be apart less time than the actual application process has taken! Let's make the most of the next week...
Sim
Dear Sim,
ReplyDeleteVery sweet. I know how you are feeling as C and I were separated for a time when I was living in London and she was in the U.S. (directly after 9/11). It was a very scary time, but the experience made us stronger. I still look back on those times and get sad, as it was really frightening. And while you probably have some ambivalence about it, I'm sure you'll figure it out. It will indeed be different, but through it something great and unforeseen may result. Or so I hope!
All best-
T
Lest anyone thinks I haven't read this wonderful message from my wonderful husband...I have. I'm working on a response...stay tuned. In the meantime - Ditto
