Weekend in NYC and Dinner at Chez Mike's

Always good to go home to NYC,visit with my mom and of course do some shopping...food shopping. Our first stop was Whole Foods, and their tasty fresh pizza and much to my surprise - Argentinian Empanadas! One of our favorite "cheap eats" when we were in Buenos Aires. They were at every cafe, bar and restaurant we visited. You could tell what was in them based on the shape, no matter where you went..the one with the handle was chicken if I remember correctly. But of course each place had their own way of making them. Well I had to get one, in addition to the great whole wheat pizza. I'm hoping to visit at least twice per month, although it might be hard during the summer months with all my races on the weekend.

My bus back got in around 6:00pm, a perfect time for dinner, and what better place than one of our favorites, Chez Mike's. So off I went, with my $20 off coupon in hand which expires at the end of the month...I had to use it. I figure it was a great way to order myself a nice dinner for tonight and get some things to go, dinner for the next three weeks! The table next to me was very loud, so i felt very much a part of their conversation. I had my kindle and cell phone to keep me company, and I didn't have to worry about being rude if I checked my email, surfed the web, or read my book. But, I found that since I was by myself I had to force myself to stop, put my fork down, add to my notes and then take another bite. Yes, a little lonely, I think the hardest part was looking up and seeing the empty chair, which I know I can fill with family and friends, but i had to do this by myself. If Sim were here we would have decided in a moments notice to go out for dinner, it is what I like to do and it is what we like to do. I can't let being temporarily alone stop me from changing what I like to do. I enjoyed a great meal, have dinner for the next 2-3 weeks, got $20 off, met the chef (Sim - yes, I met Chef Mike and Bridgette says "Hi") and proved to myself I am good with dining alone. I have a busy week next week. I've been asked to help coach women in a ten week training program to run a local 5K race. ME! - I can't believe I might help someone else reach their goal to finish a 5K. Here's to new friends...if I can talk to them while running!

  1. Wish I was there with you! I can taste the short ribs right now, as I eat borscht, again. Love you.

  2. I can see if Chez Mikes will deliver. But, you might have to give the delivery person a big tip! How is the borscht? Is your babushka's the best? I hope so.
