More Intro to Chernigov stuff…

Our only day off is Sunday. Every other day ranges from full to jam packed. Since we are all so new everyone is taking extra precautions not to lose any of us. Whenever we leave the house alone, we have to call our LCF (Language-Cultural Facilitator), Maria. I know she is just doing her job and maybe she will go lightly on us soon. Anyway, today my plan was to eat breakfast, walk to the park (I need to set up a running route), go to the supermarket, then meet the rest of the cluster at the internet café, since most of them have no access. I had my breakfast of oatmeal with jam, sautéed mystery meat, boiled potatoes, salad, tea, and bread. I have taken to pulling out a small plate to serve myself from, since Tanya is determined to see that I do not starve to death! (the upshot is that she serves HUGE portions and I have to cut them down, lest I overdose on food!)
After breakfast, her son Pavil stops by and offers to take me to the “park”. It is not a “park” per se, more like a network of footpaths winding through a forest, and no lights whatsoever. If you have ever seen the Sopranos, this WAS the Pine Barrens. I barely felt safe walking through here during the day, let alone jogging in the morning. Well, at least I got a good hike in today! Then Pavil took me to the supermarket as I needed to get some things for this week’s lunch. It was a nice little market where I was able to buy some bread, fruit, salami, cheese, yogurt, and water for the week. I also bought some chocolate for Tanya and Pavil. I also saw a real pasta selection which I may just be able to snag one day. After dropping the shopping off, I hopped on the marshtrucka into the town center. Really easy and costs $.20 each ride to go as long as the run lasts- not bad. Headed to the internet café (more like a hotel with a wi-fi zone and a bar/café), met the cluster, walked to a couple of the churches in town, and made it home for 4:30 dinner. It was borscht, potatoes, pork ribs, salad, bread and fried fish. The fish was tasty, but the amount of bones made it a little cumbersome. Tanya had to leave for a while, so I finished eating, doing the dishes, and came in to update the blog. Not sure when I will be able to post again, so I always want to have something ready.

Until next time,
До свидания,
Sim (Сим)
