Day #12/31: Fork

DAY #12: FORK

This one is a stretch, I know, but there was only so much I could do with the assignment for today (did you really expect an artistic shot of utensils?). This photo is from when I was living in the city of Chernigov for the first 3 months of service. We (my clustermates and I) were all so excited to get out and explore our new home and do some cluster bonding. Here we were living in a city we were unfamiliar with and living with a family who (at least at the beginning) we could not communicate with. We had language class 6 days a week with only Sundays off. The options for our day off were limited as we weren’t allowed to leave the city. We could stay home and read a book (I had no television or internet), or go out and explore our surroundings. I am really glad we did this when we did. We were just getting to know each other, me, Amy, Sara, Patrick, and Noelia and we would make plans to meet at the local internet cafĂ© to check email and then walk around and enjoy the sights as spring transformed the city from drab to beautiful, virtually overnight. There were equally as many things that differentiated the five of us as there were things we had in common. But, even though we all took different paths to get here, we all wound up at this moment, on this day, standing together in a park in Chernigov, Ukraine forging the one part of our lives that will forever be intertwined. We will forever be known as “Chernigov 2”.

  1. Sim... I just want to let you know that I Check the blog every day... And i get excited to read a new post, to follow you in this new step in your life... but today, like many, many others I have to wait until there is no one in the office to read the posts. Not because my online activity is monitered or that I am doing something other than work, but I know that there will be an emotional rush followed by a tear, and in many cases more than one, and I dont want to have to explain it to the 5 guys that I share the office with... Thanks for sharing your life My Brother!!!
