Day #21/31: Delicious

DAY #21: DELICIOUS

Yeah, this is still a little strange for me. Whenever I go to the market to buy meat, the purveyors hang the head of the pig in close proximity. They are the only ones. The beef guy does not hang a steer’s head, nor do the chicken or lamb sellers display the recently departed on a hooks. Just the pork people. On Friday’s in our town there is a market on the central square completely independent of the permanent bazaar. These vendors usually come from outlying villages to sell their food goods, sometimes at a rate discounted from our local stands. I usually wind up walking through, especially if I need a large quantity of something where the cheaper price per kilogram can actually save you some considerable money. The Friday market is usually limited to produce, meat, and the occasional oil or honey seller. The vendors all have a table they can display their goods on. However the meat people have no upright structure to hang their heads, so displaying today’s special guest majestically becomes more challenging- leaving few options. Many wind up like this, complete with “Colombian necktie.”
