Day #18/31: A Corner Of Your Home

DAY #18: A CORNER OF YOUR HOME

For today, I suppose, I need a definition of “your” in the title of the assignment. I mean, certainly I could have easily opted to post a photo of some dust bunnies in the corner behind my wardrobe. Or maybe a shot of the web of a long-gone spider above my refrigerator. I decided, however, to feature a place that is making quite an impact on me these past several months. Some have asked to see the “detsky dome” and here it is, the orphanage that I have been working with. I have no confirmation of this, but it seems to me that this building used to be a school in its previous life. Everything about the place looks and feels like a school. Their real school is next door about 100 yards down the street, but the public transport access to this town is so limited that I am not aware of their ability to get out and familiarize themselves with the surrounding villages like their town was to me for the first couple of months. This building and the kids who live here could easily be located in any town in this country, but this one is in the village of Chernishevo- which to some, is the whole world.
