Day #22/31: Kitchen Sink

DAY #22: KITCHEN SINK

Yep, this is a beauty, alright. It seems to fit right in, though, with the rest of the kitchen. What we have here is my ceramic sink sitting on top of a cabinet made of plywood. There is no running hot water, so the right hand handle does not function. The base of the faucet, where it meets the sink is completely rusted and when the water is running, it streams out of that spot. The water diffuser attachment at the end of the faucet got so corroded from the impurities in the water that it clogged, reducing the water output to a trickle, causing the water to spray from the rusted area. I have since removed the diffuser and now just have a solid stream when I turn it on. As you know the water in this country is not drinkable without filtering and I don’t have a filter, so I have to buy all of my drinking water and carry it home. I can just imagine what the water is doing to the pipes. Seriously, these are the original pipes from when the building was built. How do I know? Because the geniuses who built it sunk the metal pipes into the cement they used to construct it.  I am fairly certain that this is the reason the water is bad in the first place, as there is no money to replace all of the pipes, so they replace none of them. But, I digress. This sad excuse for a kitchen sink gets the job done, providing the water is actually running. My building seems to be unique in that our water only goes off every night between midnight and 6am. Most other people in town and around the country have way more irregular water outages including multiple days in a row. For this reason, I love my crappy little kitchen sink. And if you think this looks rough, you should see underneath…yikes!
